“Art of War” is a strategic drinking game that blends elements of Beer Pong and Civil War, but with a unique twist allowing teams to place their cups in strategic formations.
It’s designed for 4 to 8 players and ramps up the traditional beer pong experience with elements of strategy and surprise.
Here’s how to play the Art Of War drinking game.
What You’ll Need
- 1 Long Beer Pong Table: To accommodate two opposing teams.
- 25 Solo Cups: 12 for each team to set up in strategic formations and 1 extra for a special game feature.
- 2 Pong Balls: Used for making shots.
- Alcohol: Beer for filling the cups, with the option for a shot in the special cup.
Number of Players
- 4 to 8 players: Split into two teams, allowing for team strategy in cup placement and shooting turns.
Objective
- The main goal is to eliminate all cups on the opposing team’s side by landing balls into them, while strategically placing your own cups to make them challenging targets.
Game Setup
- Table Division: The beer pong table is divided evenly between the two teams.
- Cup Placement: Each team receives 12 cups to arrange in any strategic configuration on their side of the table. Creativity is encouraged!
- The Dragon: The extra cup (termed the “Dragon”) is placed at the center line on a raised platform, filled three-quarters with beer or just a shot, adding a unique twist to the game.
The Art Of War Drinking Game Rules
Basic Play
- Players from each team alternate shots, aiming to sink balls into the opposing team’s cups. A hit requires an opponent to drink the cup’s contents; a miss mandates the shooter to drink half a cup from their side.
- Rotation continues until one team has successfully cleared all of the opponent’s cups.
Winning
- Victory is achieved by eliminating all cups on the opposing side. The losing team must drink all remaining cups on the winning team’s side, plus face an agreed-upon penalty.
Twist: Ambush
- Releasing the Dragon: At any point during their turn, a player can attempt to “Release the Dragon” by sinking a ball into the middle cup. Successful release triggers an ambush:
- The attacking team adds two of their cups plus the Dragon’s cup to the opposing team’s side.
- Both teams then race to chug and flip all cups on their side, including the additional ones for the team facing the ambush.
- The last team to finish their cups loses and faces the penalty.
