Baseball, the drinking game, is a team-oriented cup drinking game that combines skill and strategy with drinking challenges.
It’s a turn-based game that mimics the innings of a baseball game, where players aim to score runs by landing a ping pong ball in cups representing bases.
The game is a little similar to the Baseball coin drinking game.
Here’s how to play the Baseball pong drinking game.
Equipment Needed
- 1 ping pong ball
- 14 cups (12 for the game + 2 for water)
- Beer or your preferred beverage
Setup
- Teams: Divide into two teams and position at opposite ends of a long table.
- Cup Arrangement: Place cups in a straight line at each end of the table to represent bases:
- Single: 1/4 full, closest to the player.
- Double: 1/2 full, next furthest.
- Triple: 3/4 full.
- Home Run: Completely full, furthest away.
- Place three additional cups in the middle of the table representing first, second, and third bases, with varying levels of fullness. A fourth “catcher” cup, 1/3 full, is placed opposite the base cups.
Gameplay
- Turn-Based: Teams take turns trying to land the ball into the cups at the opposing end of the table.
- Outs: Each team shoots until they miss three times, representing three outs.
- Advancing Bases: A hit allows the player to move to the corresponding base cup. Teammates can advance on subsequent hits or attempt to steal bases.
- Stealing Bases: A player on base can challenge the opposing team’s catcher to a game of flip cup to steal a base. Success means advancement; failure results in an out.
Special Rules
- Order of Play: Shooting out of turn results in an automatic out for the skipped player.
- Catcher Rules: The base runner initiates the steal, and the catcher cannot lift their cup before the base runner does. Improper lifting by the catcher allows the base runner to advance.
- Game Duration: The game is typically played over 9 innings, but this can be adjusted based on preference.
Alternate Rules
- To closely mimic actual baseball, each batter can be given three strikes before being out. Additionally, catching a ball in the air by the opposing team can result in an out.
Tips for a Great Game
- Stay Hydrated: Ensure water is available to keep everyone hydrated.
- Play Responsibly: Adjust the game to suit the alcohol tolerance and preferences of all players.
- Be Fair: Ensure all players understand the rules and agree on any modifications to ensure a fun and fair game for everyone.
