Here’s how you play Goon Of Fortune, otherwise known as the Slap The Bag drinking game.
What You Need To Play Goon Of Fortune
- A Bag of Goon (Cask Wine): A popular and affordable form of boxed wine in Australia.
- A Rotary Clothesline: A clothesline that can spin around.
Number of Players
- Any number of players: As many as can comfortably stand around the clothesline.
Objective
The aim is to be the last person standing who hasn’t “piked out” (given up) from drinking the goon. Or until the goon bag is finished.
Game Setup
- Clothesline Preparation: If you have a rotary clothesline, use it as the centerpiece of the game.
- Attach the Goon: Hang a bag of goon (cask wine) from one of the arms of the clothesline.
- Positioning Players: Players stand around the clothesline at equal distances.
Goon Of Fortune Game Rules
- Starting the Game:
- Players gather around the rotary clothesline where the goon bag is hanging.
- Spinning the Clothesline:
- A player spins the clothesline.
- Everyone waits to see where the clothesline stops and which player the goon bag is closest to.
- Drinking the Goon:
- The player nearest to the goon bag when the clothesline stops must take a drink directly from the bag. (If playing slap the bag – simply slap the bag hard before you take your sip, that’s the only difference)
- They tip their head back and drink for a reasonable amount of time, as judged by the group.
- Continuing the Game:
- After the drink, the next player spins the clothesline.
- Play continues with players taking turns spinning the clothesline and drinking from the goon bag as it stops near them.
- Losing the Game:
- If a player refuses to drink when the goon bag lands on them, or if they leave the game, they are considered to have “piked out” and are out of the game.
- Winning the Game:
- The last player who hasn’t piked out is declared the winner.
- The winner is also often the person who finishes the last of the goon.
Safety Considerations
- Drink Responsibly: While “Goon of Fortune” is a fun game, it’s important to drink responsibly and know your limits. Have water available and encourage breaks.
- Player Comfort: Make sure all players are comfortable with the game and the amount of alcohol. Include non-alcoholic options for those who prefer them.
